Hey guys!
We are incredibly busy in the library system! We have a ton going on. We have just celebrated Teen Read Week and I know that you guys are busy at school as well. Football games, band practice, other sports, papers, and much, much more keep teens hopping this time of year. We had our first RPL Anime Club of the school year and had a blast. Goofing off, watching anime, looking through catalogues at books and movies, aah! So much fun, so much fun. I've also been reading some great new books.
There's a book called "The Curse of the Romanovs" by Staton Rabin. It is about what could have happened to Alexei Romanov. In the 1990's the bodies of all but two of the Romanovs were found. Alexei and one of his sisters were not in the grave. This is definitely a novel and has some really out there ideas, but it was really fun to read. There is legend about Rasputin and how he was poisoned, beat, and shot through the head, but still alive. His body was dumped in a frozen river. In the story, which is told by Alexei, Alexei witnesses this murder and even aided in it's happening. He then travels to the future and meets one of his decendents. Really cool book, but I'll let you read the details.
At home, I've been watching "Heroes". What a GREAT show. I love it! Claire's power makes me cringe sometimes though. For those who know what I'm talking about: "Lizard" eeeeewwww! If you haven't seen it, you really need to! Who doesn't like humans who are mutating, deadly diseases, Irish mob, crooked politicians, Japanese legends, mind readers...must I go on?
On the music front, I am loving Linkin Park's new album. If you want to listen to it or buy, sorry! Got to be 18 or older! The music is just a little graphic in nature. Linkin Park just made the "Transformers" movie. They used the one song for the entire soundtrack and I never got tired of it! Plain White T's are also great and Whoot! Matchbox 20 and Maroon 5 have new albums too!
Going back to "Transformers"...Best movie of the summer! And it came out on DVD last month! Yea! I was so afraid it was going to be campy, and so happy it wasn't. Shia Labeouf did a fantastic job. It did have plenty of references to the classic cartoon show to make my generation who grew up watching it very happy, but it was not so nostalgic where it didn't make sense to your generation. Great job!

Hi! My name is Jennifer or Jenni to a select few, and as you may know I am the Children’s Specialist at the Ridgeland Public Library. I host the Ridgeland TAB (Teen Advisory Board) and the RPL Anime Club. I welcome you to this blog and as I really have no idea how to start this off. I’ll tell you about a few things I was thinking about discussing…
EVERYTHING!
Music, BOOKS, Movies, BOOKS, Video Games, BOOKS, Computers, BOOKS, Schools, Jobs, BOOKS, and more. I’d really like your input on what gets discussed so let me know what you think. I want your opinions and ideas. If it’s really good, I might use it. If it’s not so good, I might use it. This is your website and I want you to be involved in what’s on it.
The teen website got it’s theme from a song by Switchfoot, called “Stars”. I was trying to think of a theme for the podcast and remembered the line “Looking up at the stars”. “Looking Up” had such a library lean to it that I couldn’t help but use it. It also can mean a lot of things other than looking up books. So, when deciding on the theme Jason Moore (Assistant Systems Administrator/Public Information Officer), Martha Womack (Youth Services Coordinator), and I decided on a book theme. The blog is going to encompass everything else on the site in a brief format so, the name “The Summary” was born.
There you have it: the birth of the teen site and this blog. Let me know what you want the next “Summary” to be about. As I said before, this is YOUR site, we want your opinions on it. We’ll talk about what else you can do to get your opinions out at a later date.
Catch you later!
